5 divisions at MRP Saturday!.
By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - April 24, 2014... Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park will host a rip-roaring 5 division show this Saturday night. The MRP Wingless Warrior Sprint Cars will headline the program in their third appearance of the season. For stock car fans the MRP Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks and MRP Mini Stocks will compete in some fender bending championship point racing competition. The Pro 4 Sprint Cars will also be on the card.

Veteran Tim Sherman Jr. has been unstoppable in the MRP Wingless Warrior class; when the car doesn’t break. Citrus Heights’ Sherman has won one and led one in the first two outings for the class. A late race flat tire kept him out of victory lane on opening night. But, Sherman remains very fast and the one to beat.

Local lady racer Misty Castleberry is just 2 points out of the championship lead. Wheatland’s Johnny Burns and Marysville’s brightest prospect Josh Vieira will be in the mix. Vieira flipped on opening night, but has been in the hunt in each event. The Wingless Warriors have no aerodynamic wings to stick their 600 horsepower cars to the ground. The signature of the Wingless Warriors is breathtaking 100 mph slides where driver control is everything.

Yuba City’s Corey Hall is on an enormous roll and will take the MRP Super Stock point lead into Saturday’s show. He has won the last two feature events; last week from tenth starting position in a noteworthy drive. Yuba City’s Phillip Shelby blew his motor sky-high last week but still remains 2nd in the point standings after three events. Marysville's Cort and rick dozier will also field team cars. Journeyman racer and former champion, Cort Dozier, has had a terrible start to the season while brother Rick has been at the front in every race.

The MRP Mini Stocks will be led by championship point leader Jimmy Ford of Yuba City over opening night winner James Foster of Linda. Ford had a spectacular battle with Yuba City ’s Kyle Davey to the checkers last week. Davey, who has been among the fastest in the class cannot seem to get a break and still has not visited victory lane. The Davey-Ford-Foster trio has been exciting to watch. But, don’t count out Misty Castleberry who will be doing triple duty Saturday. Castleberry will run in this class as well.

The MRP Hobby Stocks will be offered on Saturday with the Hammett brothers, Eddie and Steve at the top of the standings, Knights Landing’s Aaron Taylor and Yuba City ’s Jeremy and Miranda Hammons will try to knock the brothers off the perch.

Last year’s champion in the Pro 4 division, Misty Castleberry will look for victory again Saturday night. She has won every feature event in the class this season and by doing so, is well seeded atop the point standings.

Gates open at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm.
