Marysville
CA - July 15, 2010 --- Marysville Raceway
Park’s own “Blonde Bombshell”, Misty
Castleberry has a real shot at making some serious
racing history this Saturday at the Dairy Queen of
Yuba City’s Dilly Bar Night. Mike Hall and his D.Q
sponsor 2 “Dilly Bar Nights” each year, but this
one has some remarkable ramifications associated
with it. While a superb 5 division show will be
presented, all eyes will likely be glued to a red,
white and blue hot rod in the MRP’s own Mighty
Mini Stock ranks. Misty Castleberry, pilot of the
gleaming #95 could tie a 14 year old record for
consecutive feature event wins if she grabs #9 this
Saturday. If she does it, it will offer her an
opportunity on July 24th to break the all time
record.
It’s interesting to note that Castleberry’s run
at the ring will happen in the class that
traditionally produces the largest car counts
annually at MRP. Top stars in the class like Jason
Clayton, Howard Law, Mike Merritt, Jimmy Ford and
Alan Furuta have their sights on just one
thing…beating 95. Some other top guns in other
classes are finding Mini Stock rides and making the
tow to MRP to knock off Castleberry. Record holder,
Jerry Bartlett had his days smashing the record in
1996 during the inaugural year of “Pure Stock”
racing at MRP. Castleberry told this observer that
local stock car champion, Bartlett, offered to be
Castleberry’s “Trophy Boy” if she eclipses his
mark. This gesture of good sportsmanship from the
fierce competitor Bartlett might be worth the price
of admission alone. But Castleberry must get the
victory Saturday to have a shot at the record.
Several sprint car stars from all 3 sprint car
divisions at MRP have told this observer that they
have been caught up in the Mini Stock mania and will
be watching… “racin’ is racin’”, said one
of the drivers, “…and this is good racin’”.
Speaking of sprint cars, all 3 MRP classes will be
in action Saturday. Castleberry will actually
compete in the Pro 4 class, doing double duty. With
all of the attention being focused for now on the
mini stock situation, it’s gone almost unnoticed
that Castleberry’s 1st few rides in a Pro 4
sprinter have kept her in the top 5 in points in
that division.
The Performance Auto Supply Wingless Sprint Car
Series will once again showcase a great battle for
the season championship point lead as will the MRP
Super Stocks. Last week’s feature event winner
Taylor Simas will bring a slim 5 point lead with him
into Saturday’s battle with Terry Schank. Jeff
Olschowka will bring his 9 point margin over Cory
Hall into Saturday night’s show for the slam-bang
stockers. Korey Lovell will head the MRP Winged
Sprint Car division as he appears to be a shoe-in
for a record 5th title. 3 time champ Brent Dothage
should head into town ready for a win.
Remember, everyone in attendance will get a free
dilly bar; compliments of the Yuba City Dairy Queen
and the Hall family. It’ll be warm so Dilly Bar
night couldn’t happen at a better time. But, the
racing will be hotter! Join us for spectacular,
heart stopping action this Saturday night at MRP.
The pit gate opens at 3PM. The spectator gates will
open at 5 PM with Hot Laps at 6 PM. IMPORTANT: The
first race will start after hot laps at about 6:30.
