Fenders fly for big $ at The Great Taxi Cab Open Saturday.
Top guns in town for 1st stock car race of the decade.

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - March 15, 2010 --- The 2 biggest purses in northern California short track, dirt track stock car racing are paid at Paul and Kathy Hawes Marysville Raceway Park each year. One is at the Gold Fever Stock Car Open; MRP’s annual closer and this one, The Great Taxi Cab Open. So what does that mean? Every quality stock car from all over the northwest will make a bee-line for MRP this Saturday. All divisions will feature open aerodynamic rules. Fins, wings, panels and just about every other aerodynamic device will be tried. Being the first major stock car race of the new decade, the entries will be cruising in from everywhere!

The mighty Pro-Stocks will headline the program featuring unlimited displacement engines in state of the art short track, dirt track stock cars. The Pure Stocks and the Mini Stocks will also present complete programs. The program will be presented in the wildly popular “Dual Heat Race Format”. MRP’s new “Race for It” heat race format will be in place for this event. There will be no qualifying. The fan friendly twin heat race format will determine starting positions in the feature. Points will be awarded in each of the dual heat races the cars will run. The drivers will be seeded into the feature based on the point total accumulated in the heat races… in other words you have to race for it. 20 cars will take the green flag in each of the main events. Heat race points will determine 16 of the feature event starters. The final 4 starters will be the top 4 finishers in the B main event.

The Pro Stock feature will pay $1000 to win. The Pure Stock feature will pay $500 to win and the Mini Stock feature will also pay $500 to win. Promoter Hawes continues to pay the highest stock car purses…period. 7 track champions representing some 20 championships will be saddled up this Saturday night. It’s the biggest payday in these divisions until next October at MRP. We are expecting the cream-of-the-crop in short track, dirt track stock car racing.

The pit gate will open at 3PM. The grandstands will open at 5PM. Hot Lap sessions start at 6 with the first race scheduled to hit the track after hot laps. Get there early for the 1st major stock car race of the new decade at MRP.

As noted in other press releases, promoter Hawes has reconfigured a good portion of the raceway over the winter. The entire turn 3-4 complex has been revamped. The track is now entirely surrounded by a crash wall for safety protection purposes. In doing this Hawes still maintains the widest turns available in west coast short track, dirt track racing. The new wall and catch fencing on either end of the raceway should maintain a much nicer high line cushion than in the past. Rather than stripping the clay and throwing it over a bank, the new wall and screening should trap the clay and provide a build-up on the outside groove.

This will be a wild stock car show…BE THERE
