Marysville CA - April 9,
2008 ---
Veteran stock car racer Tony Massey and CSD Machine will back the $1000 to win Modified program this Saturday at Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park. The wickedly fast Winged Sprint Cars will also be on “Fallen Racers Memorial” program with a return visit by the MRP Street Stocks, the SORA Sprint 100s and the debut of the Winged “600 Lites”.
Promoter Paul Hawes said yesterday that a number of cars from Oregon and Nevada will make the tow for the first of 5 appearances by the Modifieds at MRP this year. The unlimited Mighty Modifieds are notorious for twisting themselves into wheel lifting gyrations that keep the fans mesmerized. The added purse and the lure of MRP’s new layout will likely create a fine field of cars and stars for this one.
The Modified contingent should bring such standout drivers as Yuba City’s Duane Cleveland, Randy and Ryan McDaniel of Marysville as well as local hotshoe Dustin Massey. It‘s pretty well known that the home grown stock of Modified racers have been the most dominant racers in this class in recent years. Cleveland’s victories at MRP have been spectacular. The McDaniel family record at MRP may well be among the most dominant in the speedway’s history. The addition of the traveling teams could make this one of the finest fields of Modifieds in recent memory.
The “ Fallen Racer Memorial “ will honor racers who are no longer with us. A list of drivers, promoters and other personalities associated with MRP’s 40 years of continuous operation will be read. This in advance of the installation of huge bronze plaques to be installed on the brand new obelisk that stands in the middle of the infield raising old glory high into the night air here each Saturday night.
Promoter Hawes is most insistent that those who have participated in the 40-year history of MRP should never be forgotten.
