Marysville CA - April 8,
2008 ---
This Saturday night the Winged Sprint Cars will headline
the “Fallen Racers Memorial” program with a return
visit by the MRP Street Stocks, the Mighty Modifieds, the
SORA Sprint 100s and the debut of the Winged 600 Lites.
The Modified contingent should bring such standout drivers
as Yuba City’s Duane Cleveland, Randy and Ryan McDaniel
of Marysville as well as local hotshoe Dustin Massey.
It‘s pretty well known that the home grown stock of
Modified racers have been the most dominant racers in this
class in recent years. Cleveland’s victories at MRP have
been spectacular. The McDaniel family record at MRP may
well be among the most dominant in the speedway’s
history. Promoter Hawes is looking for a fine field of the
wheel lifting crowd pleasers.
This observer reported incorrectly that the MRP Mini
Stocks were scheduled this Saturday and that is not the
case.
The Winged Sprint Cars will return for their 3rd point
race of the season. Cort Dozier will bring a 9 point lead
into the competition over 3 time champion Korey Lovell.
Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt is but 1 marker behind
Lovell. Brent Dothage is only 12 points out of the lead as
the log jamb at the top is impressive. Dozier won the last
time out and seems to be on a bit of a roll.
In the Street Stocks, Jeff Olschowka’s victory last
Saturday night showed everyone that he is still going to
be a factor in the coming weeks. Bill Knoop maintained a
healthy point lead after Saturday’s program. Rookie
sensation Lisa Shelby has flown into 2nd place in points
after a series of solid finishes in each of the events she
has participated in. Knoop brings a 21 point advantage
into Saturday's program.
The “ Fallen Racer Memorial “ will honor racers who
are no longer with us. A list of drivers, promoters and
other personalities associated with MRP’s 40 years of
continuous operation will be read. This in advance of the
installation of huge bronze plaques to be installed on the
brand new obelisk that stands in the middle of the infield
raising old glory high into the night air here each
Saturday night. Promoter Hawes is most insistent that
those who have participated in the 40-year history of MRP
should never be forgotten.
The SORA Sprint 100’s will also be on the ambitious card
lead by many time champion Tony Gaoiran. The debut of the
winged “600 Lites” will round out the evening.
Pit gates open at 3 with the grandstands opening at 5. 1st
race always runs off at 7PM.
