$5 Gen admission & $1 Hot Dogs Saturday
1st Fan Appreciation Night at MRP

By Bob Burbach

Marysville CA - May 23, 2007 --- The MRP Street Stocks and MRP Mini Stocks will bring a host of racers to headline point racing this Saturday for Paul and Kathy Hawes first Fan Appreciation Night. All general admission tickets will be $5 and Hot Dogs will be $1 all night long. Marysville Raceway Park will complete the dynamic Memorial weekend with the always entertaining fendered warriors. Tradin’ paint is their ply and trade and it should be a great evening of high energy stock car action.

Heather Bartlett will bring a nine point lead into the competition over last year’s champion Phillip Shelby in the MRP Street Stock class. “Rapid Ray” Benkowski is only a single marker behind Shelby. All three are Yuba City products and at this writing Miss Bartlett holds the championship point lead in Chico’s stock car class as well. It is the first time in history that a female driver has had the point lead at both tracks in stock cars. Last week’s feature event winner Jeff Olschowka of Marysville will be back with his arch rival, Jerry “Mr Controversy” Bartlett trying to get back into the trop five in the standings. It is also the first time in history that two lady drivers were on top of the points in BOTH stock car divisions at MRP.

The guys will try to keep the heat on point leader Lisa Shelby as the MRP Mini Stock program will unfold. Shelby is being shadowed by last year’s champion Joel Giusti, of Sutter, Blane Baker, of Yuba City and Mike Merritt of Marysville in his familiar “Crazy Taxi”. James Foster is fifth. Shelby is a two time feature event winner this year and there is ample reason to believe that the guys better step up their collective programs before Shelby creates an insurmountable lead. The fact is, they have to beat her on the track and as long as she keeps taking checkered flags first the lead increases every week. Marysville’s Eric Jones found his way to victory lane last week and should be a factor again this Saturday.

Bring everyone you know to MRP on Saturday. Have a couple of hot dogs, sit back and enjoy the show. It will be more fun than you’ve had in a while. High speed slam bang action will be on tap with, likely, an early out and ride home for all the kids. Spectator Gates Open at 5PM with racing getting underway at 7PM.

The SORA Sprint 100s will bring their traveling show to MRP on Saturday as well. These 4cylinder winged sprint cars will present a pair of heat races and 20- lap main event. An extra added event will feature The Extreme Bombers. This interesting new look at a potential class of the future will also put on an exhibition of their own as the curtain comes down.
