MARYSVILLE, CA – The brand new Marysville Raceway Park will proudly host the winged warriors of the Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War Series this Saturday night. This much anticipated event will be the second round of competition for the 2007 Civil War series and will mark the first visit to the north state quarter-mile since the new management team has made a number of renovations this past winter.
The California Sprint Car Civil War Series is the sole traveling campaign for winged 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars in California. Under the title sponsorship of Hoosier Racing Tires West, the series will offer nearly $300,000 in winnings in the season to come and the championship title is rarely determined until the final checkered flag waves at the conclusion of the season.
During the winter months, the track that was formerly known as Twin Cities Speedway was transformed into the new “Marysville Raceway Park” by new promoter Paul Hawes and his family. An area contractor that was already involved in racing, fielding wingless sprint cars for his son, Jeremy and a teammate, Hawes had a vision of the potential the quarter-mile track nestled in one of California’s farming community had. With the combination of capitol funds, elbow grease and a positive attitude, Hawes has likely rescued this historic track from extinction and is excited to host California’s most competitive race series for the first time this Saturday night.
Marysville Raceway Park will host three events for the Civil War Series this season. Following Saturday’s event the series will return on Saturday July 7 for the seventh segment of the campaign while Saturday, September 22 will host the second to last event of the season. All three events are expected to be far more competitive and successful than those in past seasons with a wider, longer track surface surrounded by improved amenities.
Entering the second round of the 2007 series the early point standings show Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana in the current point lead. It is expected that Wimmer will be in competition with the Golden State Challenge Series in Watsonville this Saturday night. However, the Redi-Green Motorsports team which Wimmer drives for is known for last minute schedule changes and often surprising the competition and fans with an unannounced appearance.
Following the season opener at Placerville Speedway, Wimmer leads the standings with a three-point advantage over Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park who is expected to be a top contender in the 2007 campaign behind the wheel of Rick Williams’ #6 for the series. Defending series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn sits third in the standings, five points out of the lead. Scott Russell of Placerville is fourth overall, six points out of the lead while Dan Menne of Fort Jones rounds out the top five, seven points out of the lead.
Well over 30-cars are expected for Saturday’s event as California’s top talent is eager to take to the new Marysville Clay. The front gates of the speedway will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying is scheduled to begin at 6:30. Adult Tickets will be $15, juniors $10 and Children will be $4.
